Youth are chosen by the selection committee and must be between the ages of 18-29, living with HIV, live in the United States, and demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities. Scholarship recipients commit to further the mission of Youth Across Borders when they return to their home communities. Bracelets Across Borders released color, hope and facts about youth living with HIV in the US. I learned two things with this project: people in my own circles have family impacted by HIV/AIDS and some people thought HIV and AIDS had been cured. This project brought support from people all across America and several countries to our Youth Ambassadors for the 2020 trip. Her love of a group of children living with HIV in Honduras in 2012 led to her dream of connecting people in need with people who could give – regardless of age, nationality, race, gender, religion, or political belief. Courtney had served on the Board of Directors for Montana de Luz, a home for children and young adults living with HIV in Central America for six years. She visited Montana de Luz and immersed herself in the lives of the precious children who lived there. The gifts of her experiences and her imagination moved her to take what she believed to be a natural step: Fostering connections between children and young adults living with HIV anywhere in the world. She is executive director of YAB, has organized six Youth Across Borders trips, and has made 20 trips to homes caring for youth living with HIV/AIDS. She steers YAB forward by relying on her lived experiences and the knowledge gained from all of her work in the past decade. Marnina was a Youth Ambassador for Youth Across Borders for 2018, and 2019. At the National Minority Aids Council, she is a Youth Consultant, and she is also a Greater Than Aids Ambassador. She is the inaugural co-chair and a founding member of the Texans Living With HIV Network. She is also the founder of MarninaTheQueen, a brand dedicated to holistic wellness, self-care, and sex positivity. He is the program administrator for the Scale It Up- Florida program that is apart of the College of Medicine at Florida State University. In his role at SIU-FL Jonathan is able to incorporate his love and passion for helping others who are effective by HIV/AIDS throughout the state of Florida. He is able to advocate on behalf of those who are not able to do so. He represents his local community as one of two Community HIV AIDS Group (CHAG) members. He also serves as the current Chair for his local HIV Ryan White planning committee and a member of the Florida Comprehensive Planning Network (FCPN). Jonathan was a Youth Ambassador for Youth Across Borders in 2024. He quickly fell in love with the mission of YAB and that of Montana de Luz. His passion for helping those who are not able to advocate for themselves while living with HIV/AIDS was very apparent in his time on the mountain. He is extremely thankful and excited to be on the board for YAB and is going to help with their social media and website presence as it is his goal to bring YAB to many more individuals who might not have heard of them before.
